In the above clip, Andrew Sullivan explains why he feels he has “blood on my hands” due to the Iraq War. “That’s a high-drama, melodramatic, queeny kind of thing to say,” he explains. “But … (long pause) … it’s true.” Sullivan was very hawkish at the beginning but later recanted the stance.

It’s good to know that Sullivan is at least moderately self-aware, which I was convinced was impossible. However, he’s been milking this so-called apology for awhile now and he always does it in such a way that it’s getting to the point where his motivations perhaps need to be called into question to a certain degree, particularly since he has continued to act as an avid war-hawk. I get that he’s remorseful for participating in the war machine that pummeled Iraq for nearly a decade but I want to see a significant push for more responsible journalism and a serious effort put into place to prevent this from happening again. We have yet to engage in any military conflict, thank God, but we’re watching the same thing happen again with Iran and Andrew Sullivan has been beating the war drum with nearly as much vigor as he did during the go around with Iraq. What lessons were learned? “Sorry” just isn’t good enough.
